ABOUT US
Built by Developers, for Developers
MongoEngine started as the Python ODM for MongoDB. Today it’s evolving into the developer’s trusted guide for the AI-powered stack — honest, independent, and deeply technical.
Who We Are
MongoEngine began as an open-source Object-Document Mapper for Python and MongoDB — a library that has been downloaded millions of times and trusted by developers at companies large and small around the world. With 675+ referring domains and citations from IBM, Docker, Apache, JetBrains and dozens of universities, it became a cornerstone of the Python-MongoDB ecosystem.
The world of developer tooling has shifted dramatically. AI coding assistants, vector databases, LLM APIs, and RAG frameworks are now central to how developers build. MongoEngine is evolving to meet that moment — becoming the go-to resource for honest, developer-first reviews and guides on the tools reshaping the stack.
We are not a marketing platform. We don’t accept payment for rankings. We write for the developer who has already seen through the hype and needs a straight answer.
Our Mission
Honest Reviews No sponsored rankings. No affiliate pressure on scores. We test tools ourselves and tell you exactly what we found — good and bad.
Python & MongoDB Focus We write for developers building with Python and MongoDB. Every review and guide is grounded in that specific, real-world context.
Developer-First Clarity No fluff. No marketing language. We explain tools the way a senior engineer would explain them to a teammate.
Our Journey
2009 — MongoEngine ODM Born Released as an open-source Python ODM for MongoDB, providing a clean document-mapping interface for Python developers.
2014 – 2024 — Trusted by the Community Cited by IBM, Docker, Apache, JetBrains, Debian, Fedora, universities and thousands of developers worldwide. Became the reference documentation for the Python-MongoDB stack.
2025 — The AI Stack Shift As AI tools redefined developer workflows, MongoEngine.org began expanding into honest reviews of AI coding assistants, vector databases, LLM APIs and RAG frameworks — staying true to its Python and MongoDB roots.
2026 and beyond — The Developer’s AI Guide MongoEngine is becoming the definitive independent resource for developers navigating the AI tooling landscape — with the same no-nonsense, technically rigorous voice that made the ODM docs trusted for over a decade.
The Original MongoEngine Lives On
The MongoEngine Python ODM remains actively maintained on GitHub. Full documentation, API reference, and guides are available at docs.mongoengine.org. If you’re here for the library — you’re in the right place.
This site (mongoengine.org) is the editorial home — where we publish AI tool reviews, developer guides, and stack comparisons. The two exist side by side, sharing the same commitment to helping Python and MongoDB developers build better.
