Who We Are
MongoEngine.org is an independent editorial website publishing developer-focused reviews, guides, and comparisons of AI tools, vector databases, LLM APIs, and the Python-MongoDB ecosystem. We also host the official documentation for the MongoEngine Python ODM at docs.mongoengine.org.
We are not affiliated with MongoDB, Inc. MongoEngine is a community-maintained open-source project.
Data We Collect
We collect minimal data. Specifically:
- Usage data — pages visited, time on page, referrer URL, browser type, and approximate geographic location (country level). Collected anonymously via analytics.
- Search queries — if you use the on-site search on docs.mongoengine.org, your query terms may be logged anonymously to help us improve content.
- Contact information — if you reach out to us via email or a contact form, we retain your email address solely to respond to your message.
We do not collect names, payment information, or any sensitive personal data. We do not require account registration to use this site.
How We Use Your Data
Data we collect is used exclusively for:
- Improving content — understanding which guides and reviews are most useful to developers.
- Site performance monitoring — identifying slow pages or errors.
- Responding to enquiries — replying to messages sent directly to us.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not build advertising profiles based on your behaviour.
Cookies & Analytics
This site uses cookies for analytics purposes only. We use Google Analytics (or a privacy-focused alternative) to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Analytics cookies do not personally identify you.
WordPress, which powers mongoengine.org, may set functional cookies required for the site to operate correctly. These are not used for tracking.
You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time by enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser, or by using a browser extension such as uBlock Origin.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process data on your behalf:
- Google Fonts — loads typography assets. Subject to Google’s privacy policy.
- Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics. Subject to Google’s privacy policy.
- Hostinger — our web hosting provider. Your IP address is processed by their servers to serve pages.
- GitHub — MongoEngine source code and issue tracking is hosted on GitHub.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy which governs their data handling. We encourage you to review them independently.
Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on mongoengine.org may be affiliate links — meaning we may earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.
Affiliate relationships never influence our editorial scores or rankings. We review tools we believe are genuinely useful to developers. If we wouldn’t recommend a tool without an affiliate arrangement, we don’t recommend it with one either.
Where affiliate links are present, we clearly disclose this at the top of the relevant page.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law including GDPR (EU) and similar legislation. These rights include:
- Access — request a copy of data we hold about you.
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion — request deletion of data we hold about you.
- Objection — object to processing of your data.
Since we collect minimal data and do not maintain user accounts, most of these rights are satisfied by the fact that we hold very little personally identifiable information in the first place.
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained for 26 months in aggregate, anonymous form before being deleted. Contact correspondence is retained only for as long as necessary to resolve the enquiry, after which it is deleted.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
